it is amazing that John Lennon wrote this for 5 year old Julian as he was putting him to sleep. The song lingered and then was given to Ringo to sing , nothing else was done to it by any other Beatle . John gave one instruction to George Martin make is plush sappy movie like .. a whole orchestra played it and Ringo did his best vocals in this song ... and pretty much that was the history of "Goodnight" but Had John not given the order to make it a grandiose productions it would not have been this masterpiece. When you hear it as sung by Barbra Streisand then you realize the TALENT of John Lennon almost an improvised lull-a-by becomes a stunning piece of classical music with lines like "Dream sweet dreams for me, Dream sweet dreams OF me" Angels took over Liverpool in the very early 1940s
