I just double checked Dane's discography. The Young Girl LP was recorded in 10961. Never knew it was that early.

The Kingston Trio and The Brothers Four recorded it as 500 Miles. THere are differesnt versions out there of this song with the distance being either 500 or 900 miles from home.

Barbara Dane recorded an LP back about 1970 titled When I Was a Young Girl and this song is on it with Tom Paley doing guitar. I don't have the exact date. The version on the LP is almost the same as this except her voice is much younger on the L.P. She sounds like a woman in this version and a girl in the earlier.

If you want this recording don't be cheap, buy the CD it is remarkable! I bought the album in a used record store in Hawaii 30 years ago. It was so scratched I could only listen to half of the first side. No one was more happy to see it finally come out on CD in the 90s.
