Playing a bassline for Cream's 1969 hit "Badge", over a custom-rendered MIDI backing track with my Alembic Essence bass guitar.

ABOUT THE SONG

"Badge" was written by Eric Clapton and George Harrison during a collaborative effort by Harrison, Clapton and Ringo Starr. The song was recorded in October of 1969 at Wally Heider's Studio, LA and I.B.C. Studios, London, produced by Felix Pappalardi and included on the Cream album "Goodbye".

Released as a single in April of 1969, "Badge" peaked at number 60 on the U.S. Charts.

Jack Bruce, bassist of Cream, performed this signature bassline.

Thanks for posting for some reason other bass players skip opening riff and play the rest . I play guitar and want to open with bass riff then start guitar parts .

Nice smooth playing.  Just wondering if you use Band in a Box for your backing track?  Thanks for your time to post your vids:)  BTW-great tone!

Did you learn this Bass from the original studio recording? If so you left out even some simple stuff leading back into the verses, and you really didn't attempt anything Jack did in the the instumental last verse?

you get a much fuller sound from a fretted note. that and you need to be cautious that you don't change octave. other than that it's just horses for courses

Nice job. Very quiet hand on the frets. Even the quick fill, which gives me fits. I still haven't got it down.

I never quite understand why some don't use an open string instead of using the fifth fret of the lower string or the second fret of a higher string instead of the seventh of a lower string. Just starting out, so I am inexperienced, yet trying.

@artfxl5 Thank you very much for your nice comment. I seldom try copying a bass line; instead I use to add some kind of personal flare. I'm glad it worked for you.

Que bueno esta el video que hiciste, se aprecia todo lo que haces en el bass y es una de mis rolas favoritas de eric clapton, aunque me gustan las versiones en vivo de canción. Saludos

@TheCharlybass Hi, I guess that you mean the quick fill. It goes: e-d-c-b-a-g-f#-e-d-c.

sorry to say im a lil dissapointed on this one. of course your main bassline is flawless, usually u add ur own flair to every bassline, but on this one, wheras bruce throws some" bring it home " fill-ins after the bridge, you chose to play it straight. I wanted more!! lol
