Open the gate is a Metaphor.I already talked with Arjen and he told me that most of his lyrics is a metaphor.I asked about his song Black Hole and about Quantics Fisics. He said that he had a vision about what is inside the black and I told him that so do I.

Black holes is a kind of recycler. In the middle of all Galaxies exist one.So be careful to not go there!! The gate is the mind. If you keep all your energy focus in this area you can challenge death to meet you there and it will not take you away.

Omg i just realized. The gold to oblivion is gold not to trick the Barbarian, but because the Forever value death more. The forever wish they were able to die again because now they must feel the stings of living forever. Also emotions are the one thing they truly want but they can never get it back because they traded them for their immortality. To the forever the worse choice isn't choosing death, but choosing life. Which also explains why the gate is old because that's their past.

The Knight's pleading to Forever for an explanation is still one of my favorite moments on the entire album. Damian Wilson is a singer who, when I first heard this album in 1998, I didn't really care for... but over time, he's become my favorite, due to the incredible emotional range he displays throughout this album (and his work on Star One's Victims of the Modern Age). And I seriously think that pleading section is the best vocal work I've heard from him, period. Really, really amazing stuff.

Ah, poor barbarian :( I mean yeah, he probably deserved... nah, he definitely deserved it. But he had an epic voice!

It does if you follow the story. Yes, the character IS arrogant, rude, and violent. As the story progresses though, he faces the things he's done(see:Castle Hall), sees the things the others have done, and in the end, does something that might redeem him, even though he maintains his bluster to the end. Listen to the album again, follow the development of the character. It's not in your face, but the hints are there.

to be honest, that kind of attitude doesn't seem to fit him... i mean, just by reading the previous songs (esp. the gardens of emotion) we understand that he's just an arrogant, rude, and violent man. this kind of nobility doesn't seem (to me, at least) to fit his character...

I love how music can be interpreted in different ways. See, when *I* hear this song, I hear the barbarian knowing he may die, but going first and taking the risk anyway, so the others don't have to, as a way to atone for his past transgressions. Of course, I could be interpreting it wrong, but that does seem like something Arjen would do deliberately...
