Me and a friend of mine have a theory about this song, and how it references almost every Ayreon album but also ties them up together:-"I sang about these dreams, warning man of this demise, wasting words that no one heard": in The Final Experiment, Ayreon sees visions of the future. As he is a bard, he tries to sing this future to the world in order to change the course of history, but no one listens to his warning, and humanity seals its fate.-"To a place beyond our time, where the sunlight doesn't warm, and colours bleeds into the night": the Electric Castle was a place outside of time, as it features people from different eras. And in the song Amazing Flight, the Highlander clearly states "the sun, it doesn't warm" and the voice says "colours will bleed into the night".-All the part from "Now I have that dream again" to "in a world once proud and free" is a clear reference to the world of the Forever in the first disc of 01011001. He even uses the words "beneath the waves", one of the name of the songs set in the forever planet in 01011001.-"they live inside my head, feeling everything inside, they speak to me in dreams, they can see all I can see, they have always been my guide". Now he is Me from The Human Equation, trapped in a coma, interacting with his own emotions guiding him and revealing to him his darkest secrets, but ultimately leading to his salvation. He says "I hate that dream again" and not "I have that dream again" as before, because Me suffers from being confronted to his inner demons in this perpetual dream, and tries desperately to wake up from his coma.Now our theory is that Mr. L from this song is actually also the hippie from Into the Electric Castle, also Mr. L from Lost in the New Real, and ALSO Arjen Lucassen himself. At the end of Electric Castle, the hippie survives his journey but just like Ayreon, now sees the future in dreams/hallucinations, probably a result of his close encouter with the Forever. Ultimately just like Ayreon, Lucassen ended up trying to transmit the Forever's message using music, telling those stories he sees visions of. But no one took his message has an actual predictions of things to happen, and overwhelmed by the visions, Arjen/Mr. L/the hippie runs mad and becomes the character we see in The Truth is In Here. Ultimately he dies, and is revived in Lost in the New Real.In conclusion, deep shit is deep lol

The way I see it, this is the same Mr. L that we met in Lost In The New Real. On that record, he's been brought back to life, after having been put into a sleep stasis, only to be awoken when his cure is found. I believe his illness is caused by the "Time Telepathy program" (from The Final Experiment and 01011001), which is why he's questioned by a shrink upon his awekening. I could be wrong though ;)

Those who have disliked this song (and the others), don't know the epic work of Ayreon and the unity that form all his CDs together.... this is more than just music, this is a f@$%!g incredible fable of humanity's fate translated into songs! Start by listening at least two albums, then you'll be able to tell if you really don't like it.
