AUGUST, 1990 - A short announcement from the then NASHVILLE NETWORK concerning the untimely passing of my most favorite person in the world, LEW DeWITT. I spoke to Denver (Lew's eldest son and my nephew) the other nite about posting this. He gave me his blessing. I haven't had the chance to speak with Donna (MOTOR), Brian (LURBURT) or Shannon (SHINANNAGINS) about posting it just yet. If there's a problem, I'll take it down. I just thought that those who knew him, were fans, friends, or whatever, and hadn't seen this before might be interested. I apologize for the quality of the video. There was not much I could do to improve upon it. Excepting for a quick fade in and out to black, all else is just as it was transmitted on TNN on that sad and mournful day back in August, 1990. With that, I'll just say "I still love ya bud, and we all miss you.....very, very much.

While I love Jimmy Fortune, he will never replace Lew's delightful voice. I pray he's resting in peace.

I always preferred Lew DeWitt over Jimmy Fortune, however I think Jimmy did a fantastic job singing lead on "Elizabeth". It was his best song ever, I think. He nailed it.

A very, very fine man, awsome songwriter and musician, and just a wonderful personality. This man made the Statler Brothers.

I love the Statlers, before and after. Lew's passing was a sad time indeed, but the music is still good and always will be. They are one of the best groups in country music and always will be.

I wonder why he felt he hadn't made his mark. It was very sad to hear that. I definitely think he did!

Dang Chrones! My friend has it & it's horrible. God Bless the Statlers & long live Lew DeWitt. I always loved his voice in Flowers on the Wall. He made the song fun to listen to with his intuitive accenting.

Things happen for a reason. With Jimmy Fortune coming along the Statlers remained to have many hits that Jimmy wrote. Elizabeth, More than a name on a wall, and My only love were just a few. Both Lew and Jimmy were great vocalists.

Blessed Saviour guided him. Till he reached that blissful shore. Where the angels wait to join him. In God's praise forevermo-ore.
