The best song on this album. It was the end of their good songs. It should have been on the much better 1977. The rest of this album is a bit meh.

This song is ri-dic-u-lous. This, Skunk by MC5, Mildred Pierce by Sonic Youth, Helter-Skelter, Sex Beat by The Gun Club and Search & Destroy are my favourite heads-down rock songs. Everyone looks baffled when I maintain that Tim Wheeler(although I think this is a co-write.?) is the most naturally-gifted songwriter in rock of the last 25 years, better than Damon Albarn, Kevin Shields, Jason Pierce(and it pains me to say that, believe me), Chris Martin, Thom Yorke, Casablancas, etc... but he really is, 1977 is flawless, Goldfinger one of the greatest songs ever written, up there with Perfect Day, the Wheeler songs on Free All Angels are utterly perfect, and I honestly think if Ash had ever taken themselves a bit more seriously they would be universally acknowledged as one of the greatest British bands of the last 25 years. It's their image that held them back - some rock critics are cloth-eared cunts. I remember, for example, a single review in the Guardian Guide of Shining Light(a song with the single most extraordinary chorus I've ever heard) which trashed it, comparing Ash to, I can't remember, Travis or Feeder or someone, and I realised that some people, whose job it was to review songs, couldn't seem to actually hear music and so judged bands on other criteria. What can you do?Rant over.

Great album opener, totally lets you know that Ash was trying to do something different with this record. Probably my favorite by them, some people might say 1977 or Free All Angels, but this one just blew me away with the ballads alone. Their experiments with the more uptempo stuff is really fascinating.
