A lot of comments about Joe Strummer rolling/rocking in his grave . . . someone should probably note that this is a Paul Simonon song, one of the few he wrote. You can simply ask him what he thinks of it.

ben à priori c'est pas mal comme reprise mais on est loin de l'interprétation initiale teintée de rage! on ne sent pas la révolte sur cette reprise ni l'idée de mourir les armes à la main!bref, c'est raté quoi!A.

Because the Internet

There's no menace, there's no threat, there's no (for want of a better term) Gangsta to this version. A slight misstep from an otherwise excellent band, it happens.

Awful, smells like social protest as a fashion statement

Yep, this takes nothing away from the original. They took this song in an amazing direction.

yes, absolutely, a cover should always add something new and not just be the exact same song again - then nobody would need a cover! :D I really do like the Arcade Fire version a lot more than the original as it seems so dark and hopeless.

best cover, hands down

It's saddening to see the misguided comments that disparage Arcade Fire's cover. It doesn't sound like the Clash, and it isn't supposed to. They're paying homage in their own style, and any artist worth his or her salt would appreciate that.

I'm aware of that, look at the comment I responded to.
