Yep I agree. First time I heard heard him was a couple days ago. Now that the "wonderment' has worn off I ask; "where are the dynamics"? It's all at the same volume all the time. Every song.!00%. I love the chops, but not the musicality. Yes I wish I could play like him. Actually more like I wish i kept playing.........but there is more. There has to be another level that combines his power and speed with dynamics and feel. By the time I ever got to his level of "chops" 'l would be dead anyway. Math problem for everyone: Priester x (Weckle plus Gadd) + (Bruford x's Palmer) + (Rich x Portnoy (minus egos) x 2 squared)) x (White + Bozio ( / his egocentricity). and add a heaping helping of Harrison. Now multiply by the 5th degree of Bonham and solve. I still wonder what Buddy could have done with a mega kit, mullet, and thrashing guitar. Or if he would bother.Lesson for all you playing.
