It's not a cowbell or a cymbal. It's a red fire alarm bell on a cymbal stand. (google red fire bell) You can see it's part of Jerry's kit in all the videos.I saw AW many times. That's what Jerry was banging on every single time.

It's a small cymbal that sounds like a fire bell,way up high on Jerry Mercer's right side,it is quite obvious on many live versions of this song.

Quite simply awesome! What a song!! Whenever this song was played on Canadian radio in the mid-seventies, the volume control knob on my radio was turned up immediately! Jim Clench had an incredible voice.

Our drummer used to use the inside top of one of his cymbals when we played this song. It sounded like a fire bell.

They played this song once and everyone thought there was a fire, so they all left the club, and April Wine kept on playing to an empty club. It took about 15-20 minutes before everyone realized that there was no fire alarm and no fire, so they all gradually shuffled back inside. The band members started to tease the audience, and everyone was really embarrassed. Then for a joke, someone lit the stage on fire for real, and they played the fire bell again, but someone quickly put out the fire.
