Lyrics:

Are you going across to Ireland?

Will you take me in your car?

I'm sure you'll find my conversation sound.

I can pay my way entirely.

I'll enjoy your company.

Leave me off in any Tipperary Town.

Sure there's Cashel Tipp and Lorra,

Old Borris and Clogheen.

You can take me where I've never been before,

In Dundrum, Roscrea or Carrick,

In Thurles or Clonmel,

Or my birthplace by the town of Templemore.

CHO: Leave me on the road to Nenagh

Where the rippling Shannon calls,

And the Arra Mountains join the Silvermines.

I'll be happy too in Cahir

Where the Galtee shadows fall.

I'm at home in any Tipperary town.

I relive again the memory

Of days I used to know

'Ere I let my wandering dreams invade my mind

In that little town of Emly

I knew so long ago.

How I rue the day I left it all behind!

My father loved this song and he always sang it in the Steering Wheel in Clondalkin Village. He was born in Tipperary so this was always going to be a firm favourite of his. He passed away this morning and I was looking for it to play at his funeral. Listening to it brought back so many great memories for me personally. When I'd come home to Ireland to visit we'd always meet up in the Steering Wheel Pub and the sing songs would start once we'd greased the tonsils with enough drink.. His home village of Emly even gets a mention in this beautiful song. I don't like Daniel O'Donnell myself but he loved him. I guess it's the old school style of music that always did it for me father. Even though we'd kinda drifted apart over the last couple of years of his life he was always a hero to me. I will miss ya Da. I got to say goodbye properly though over the weekend last. It almost felt like he was waiting to see me and then he closed his eyes and didn't wake up again. I'm feeling a wee bit sad atm but he left me with some great memories. We always had great craic together and I will always have those memories to keep close to my heart.. Take care of yourself wherever u are Dad and don't be giving those poor feckers too hard a time of it in the spirit world. I will see u again one day when my time comes. Hopefully u have met up with the Mule there now. The auld boys brigade can tear it up again now u are together again.. Goodbye Da. I love u.. x
