Charted at #45 on Billboard Hot 100 in September 1963. Backing vocals by the Chiffons. A competing version released at the same time by Barbara Chandler bubbled under the Hot 100 at #114. Original Billboard review: "This is a tale of the hurt of young love, and it is one that should appeal strongly to the teens. Tune is melodic and catchy and the lass gives it a good go over strong backing." A Billboard Pick.

Written by Neil Sedaka under the name Ronnie Grossman.

B-side is "Why Am I So Shy".

I remember being 16 and relating. Such s cool, pretty, yet sad song. My younger sister and I loved it! We always read credits of a record and I recall the Chiffons backing up or hearing someone say. At sny rate it's a beautiful combination. Thanks for sharing a gem. :)

Was "Ronnie Grossman" (writer credited on the record label of this song) really Neil Sedaka's pen name? Does anyone know if that's true?

there must have been something in the water coolers in the brill building in those days. never since have songwriters been able to capture the miseries of being a teenager in such a heartfelt yet clever way. today's purveyors of chest-beating histrionics could take a lesson here.

According to a story about this song, Sedaka was unhappy with his publisher and used his sister's married name as his "pen name" for this tune. He gave the tune to The Tokens (he was a founding member of the group's original line-up. The Tokens produced the record and The Chiffons (also Tokens proteges) were the uncredited background singers. A solid hit in Baltimore.
