Stunning, that crescendo gets me every time, it saddens me that my wife and children have absolutely no ear for melody, i wish they could jump inside my soul and listen to beauty like this so they could feel what they are missing, this song affects me so much, my heart almost bursts it is so beautiful

Probably my all time favourite song from a musical just beating Stranger in Paradise also from this musical. I'm not a big fan of musicals but they very often turn out gems like this.Like an other poster this gives me goose bumps and makes my hairs stand on end.Sadly from a bygone age where the lyrics meant something, sung perfectly and clear and not drowned out by the backing.I also prefer this to the Broadway version(which I've just had a look because of other comments here) where Marsinah father is singing a different set of lyrics repeatedly, whist his daughter singing this song, and he ruins the beauty of it, it almost sounds like a competition. As to this version, both good singers that complement each other Ann's strong but sweet and Vic's mellow and warm.

I had the privilege of seeing Ann Blythe in the King and I (Michael Ansara was the King) in Dallas in the early 60's, I think!!!She was a stunning performer and he was a great "king"!!!

i honestly prefer this short version. the longer version the first few lines with everyone singing on top of each other takes away from the emotion

I met Ann in 1967, I looked into the most incredible blue eyes I have ever or will ever see. She was a perfect lady, very sweet and to this day remains one of my most cherished memories.

Don't kill me for saying this. In the Broadway musical, this was a wonderful quartet that lasted twice as long and sounded like opera (although Borodine never meant it that way). This here is a very disappointing "speedy" version of the original. This song was one of the show-stoppers of the musical and it was badly cut short. I don't know why the film-maker chose to do this. I am sure that back in 1955, quite a few movie-goers who knew the Broadway musical must have complained about this.

They don't make movies like this anymore. they make trash with garbage directors and actors that can't lift a finger to the actors of days gone by.

i just love this song. i only wished they wouldn't have cut it that short for the movie - the original broadway arrangement is so much more emotional...
