It isn't necessarily a romantic love somone is waiting on. I used to sing this song thinking of my brother who once he graduated from high school was out of my life, and also was very lost. "And even if, you never do return..." I think I saw my brother once from the time I was 17 until his passing at age 35 in a car accident. He was in a coma for 4 months before he died. I was able to touch his body in the hospital, but not really able to connect with him. I can't sing this without tears.

A dear friend played this song for me when I was 17. I was going off to college and we both knew we would never be as close as we were in that moment. We are both old and grey now. I never really did return. I was sure I would. I guess I knew back then I just didn't want to accept it. That moment in time will forever be in my mind. I love you Al.

i love this song!!! this was from unguarded (last song) in 1985. beyond the prodigal son story, it's about someone waiting for their love to return. to me this is so romantic.

@sunlitrain : I agree completely. I actually lived out this song in 1991, when my best friend joined the AF and I really thought I never would see him again. But My God had bigger plans, and April will be 19 years that we have been married!!

@ShellyDZ99 To me, it indicates love, I don't think it's wrong at all. We often do things out of love we would never do normally.

This song is about anyone waiting for loved one to come back as God waits for us to come back to Him. My wife left in 1982 and we are talking about her coming back home today. Agape love never quits or dies To love as Christ loves us

Thanks for uploading this! :-) I love this song!!! Also, does anyone have the other version of this song - the one that has an orchestra in the background? Hope someone can post that too... :-)

@ShellyDZ99 This song is actually based out of the Bible story of the Prodigal Son. The true message is that God has a father's heart that never ever dies. And no matter who you are, what you've done, or how much you ignore Him, His love for you will never change. There is nothing we can do to ever be loved less. He ever waits. Like a parent with a child that left home and never came back.... Unconditional Love is Real.

The last verse still gets me choked up...but I can't help thinking wow, this person should really move on with life. Is that wrong? ;-)
