I think this song is about the mother, not wife/GF, of Lemminkäinen. He is a shaman-warrior but kinda dependent of his powerful mother, a witch. In the epic, she searches heaven and earth after her son has gone missing, and finally drags his broken body from the river of Tuonela. She sews him together and brings him back to life.
