@wigarmy Obviously it is her version of a cover as she is covering it, and it is different to the Iron and Wine version. Notice that A)She is a female singer as opposed to the male vocalist from Iron and Wine. B)She's playing piano, as opposed to iron and wine who cover this song on guitar... need I continue? As for her level of talent, she is an amazing live and recording artist who Is popular amongst her peers in the industry. Do you have any musical releases others can judge you on?

So like all of my favorite bands keep covering this song. I like the more upbeat rendition that Streetlight Manifesto did, but this song lends itself well to a slow rendition.

@Lordofthetomatos Oh man, I did see her live as the Dresden Dolls in Prov RI Lupos in 05. She's amazing I love her, her passion is lovely and so so moving.

Hey lord, you won't be disappointed. She is wonderful live, and for me, this cover is wonderful too. Her songs aren't perfect, but I like it that way; she knows when to leave technical perfection to one side and let character and emotion shine through.

Great thing about this world is everyone is entitled to their opinion and I try to respect everyone's opinion. I have never heard Amanda do a bad song. I LOVE this version of this song. I think the "tired" sound that the piano brings out in it. To me it just gives the song a whole new emotional pull. It's like every word is filled with such emotion that it might burst. I Love Amanda Palmer and, in my opinion, I don't think she is capable of performing badly, no matter the song.

So ít's not even her version of a cover, it's just copying Iron & Wine's original interpretation of the Postal Service song! Wow! Whole new levels of unoriginality! If this girl had twice as much talent she'd be rubbish!

Disagreed, this is great and so are several other covers. Covers are a great way to show your influences and the artists you respect or your personal taste. Revising them to your accord makes them more personalized and thus more accessible to a people of a similair mindset to you - all this being said, though. I still think the best version of this song is done by... her friend and producer for WKAP - Ben Folds! His versions ridiculous and joyously infectious. Love it!

its not necessarily a happy song :S its whatever you wanna make of it. jnust cos it has an ubeat tune in the original doesnt mean its happy. its about loneliness and missing someone! iron and wine picked up the sadness in it aswell

The song is about a girl he can't see because he/she is on the road. That's sad. Also, just because she dropped it an octave and slowed it down doesn't mean she's "singing it all emo".
