Members of the original Allies band were Bob Carlisle, Randy Thomas (of Sweet Comfort Band), Sam Scott, Matthew Chapman, and Jim Erickson.

Allies was started in November of 1984 . The name Allies came from a suggestion via their producer, Dino Elefante. After naming the group, Randy and Sam set out on a search for a lead singer. They didn't have to look far. Sam was playing in a band with Bob Carlisle, whom He and Randy had known for years.

One evening Bob called Sam from LA looking for a fresh, Christian setting to sing with, and he was immediatly offered the position with Allies. Randy and Sam talked that night and they met with Bob at his home in San Bernardino, California. The band was started that very evening. Within a few weeks an 8 track demo of the band was handed to Light Records exec., Gary Whitlock, and Light records signed the band on the spot. Matthew Chapman, longtime band mate and friend , was added on bass.

Psalm 150 alumnist, Jim Erickson, was added as drummer to the newly formed band. The band in this initial form recorded 2 records for Light in 1985 and 1986. The two albums were: Allies and Virtues.
