If we had Socialism in the US, we would still buy and sell things, the difference is that the workplaces would be own by the workers in a collective way and not by single man or few men, while other industries like education, housing, police, military and other workplaces that don't produce anything that you can buy would be own by the state. The only Socialist nation in the world is Cuba, and you still have to buy stuff there.
