Cover version of Gerry's 1978 track 'Island'. Recorded in 2005 by Alan Rafferty (Gerry's cousin) and Donna Wells (a lovely friend) for 'The Gerry Rafferty International Tribute Album'. All instruments played by Vili Ieru. Mixed and Mastered by David Mackin. Photos courtesy of Robert Ryan who incidentally also appears on the tribute album. Thanks to everyone for your help in contributing to this video and of course, to Gerry for the legacy of such wonderful music. I salute you all. Lyrics and related links to this video :-

Wake up my love,

The sun is shining out there, blue sky up above

It's a brand new day,

Let's walk outside and let that breeze blow all our cares away.

You know that way back there in that city life

We've been strangers for so long

Now that I feel like I know you again

I want to stay.

So long ago (yeah),

We had a love so warm and bright, when we had just begun

That was my last dream,

Since then I've watched the rest just crumble one by one.

Since we've been on this island, yeah it's felt so right

It's getting closer now everyday

Now that I feel like I know you again

I want to stay. (sha la la sha la la ....)

You know that on my own, I don't make it alone

I need someone who needs me

I only know that wherever you are

I want to be.

But from now on,

We won't worry about a thing, yeah the past is gone

This is our last day (yeah),

We're gonna make sweet love before we sail away.

(sweet sweet darling sha la la la sha la la la ....) Gerry Rafferty @ 1978.

Steve - So grateful to you for doing this for Alan and I. You really did an AMAZING job of putting it all together. Just love it so much. Feel so honoured that you considered it worthy of a video. The whole project was an honour. Doing something to thank Gerry - not to mention him actually LIKING it!! Working with so many talented Gerry fans around the world. Singing with ALAN (who has one of the dreamiest voices in the world!) And the SOOOOO talented YOU, making a video. Love you Donna xo

Forwarded comment and info on the photo locations by Robert Ryan - Great stuff. For info some of the islands are located on Loch Lomond, Some are taken FROM those islands looking towards Ben Lomond. Incmurrin (The island of St Mirin-patron saint of Paisley) is the largest inland island in the british isles. Other islands in the mix include Arran and Pladda which are on the Clyde Coast- near where the photo of Gerry on the boat appears to be.

That is just GORGEOUS!!!! Don't deprive the world - do another eleven songs of Gerry's and publish it as an album. It would do really well!! Mike x

@YCSMusic - Thanks Steve for that, Gerry actually did get to hear this and was indeed impressed. No, not the angels playing it, but it actually was recorded in 2005. Thanks for your support and that wonderful video you made for Stage Parades, will always be grateful. Steve

The beauty of having two channels is you can feature the same wonderful track on both which is the case here. I am so proud to have been able to be involved in your project albeit 6 years later and hope more people find this FIND. Thanks to Cam for getting the ball rolling by uploading 'Half A Mile' a year ago, sometimes gems go hidden for far too long. Enjoy :-)
