"A Piece Of The Action" was released on The Babys' 2nd album, Broken Heart, in the fall of 1977. I remember there was quite a bit of advertising for this album at the time and there was some hype about The Babys being the next big thing. I bought the album at release and thought it was fantastic....great power/glam/rock with a great vocalist and lots of guitar. I was a sophmore in high school at the time Broken Heart was another of those records that was frequently spinning on my then spanking new Pioneer Receiver and Technics turntable that I had strategically placed next to the head of my bed so I could listen to music into the early morning hours every night. Wow....I miss that set up and that room....and those friends.....and that time! ;-)
I became a huge fan of this band and bought all their records. The Baby's is another one of those bands that I've been wanting to do something for for a long time. I had started another one ("White Lightning") very early on, but could never make it happen the way I had envisioned...I haven't even looked at that project since, but I might go back into in one day soon and see if maybe my vid skills have advanced to the point where I can do something interesting with it...it's a great track! Anyway, wanted to do a tune from Broken Heart and "A Piece Of The Action" is one of my favorites...I tested some things to "Silver Dreams" as well, not sure which one would take off. Hope to finish that track, "The Golden Mile" and then a few from their third and fourth albums (my personal favorites) eventually.
I saw The Babys in concert in San Antonio around the time this album was released....Alice Cooper was headlining and I recall this band was not very popular with the audience. Their sound didn't quite fit the rock expectations of most of the harder rock fans, but I thought they were amazing. I believe they ended up cutting their set short...think I remember a couple of bottles being thrown?....definitely remember John Waite defiantly wrapping himself in a Union Jack as he exited to the joy of at least a few rude fans. I think The Babys problem was that they were just too glam/rock for the pop crowd and too pop/glam for the rock crowd? Either way, they made some really great music that stands up today.
I was really disappointed I couldn't higher resolution album art so I could have done a few more things and so the sequences using it would look a bit sharper, but this was the best I could do.....till next one I hope you enjoy "A Piece Of The Action"!
If there are any Babys fans who might supply some high resolution cover art of The Babys albums, I'd be forever in debt....and of course credit your contribution in the next vids!?!? This record in particular is a problem, since I only have the 2-CD Remaster from 2008 that doesn't contain the full Broken Heart cover....the others I do have on CD and might be OK, of course I'd still appreciate any....help me make some better vids for this underrated band!
Special thanks as always to any of the photographers who's art was used to make new art! THANKS!

I've got no money
Could you spare a dime?
I got the plan
If you got the time
If you take me there
You can claim your share
Of the action
Been on the road
for a long time now
Paid all my dues
Oh, I'm ready now
If you take me there
You can claim your share
Of the action
Oh, for a piece of the action
Oh, for a slice of the cake
Oh, for a piece of the action
Oh, for a slice of the cake
Sometimes I feel
As I'm going down
That nothing can stop me
From losing ground
If you take me there
You can claim your share
Of the action
Oh, for a piece of the action
Oh, for a slice of the cake
Oh, for a piece of the action
Oh, for a slice of the cake
For a slice of the cake
Oh, oh, oh......................
