[Video #124] from http://www.youtube.com/user/MetalGuruMessiah the address for MetalGuruMessiah's Musical Paint Box! Check out my other videos!

"A New Career In A New Town" was released on David Bowie's 1977 album, Low. This is one of Bowie's greatest works, recorded when he was kicking his coke habit and had moved from New York to Berlin. Longtime producer, the brilliant Tony Visconti was on board, as well as the even more brilliant Brian Eno.

The album consists of one side (Side One) of shorter, highly melodic power/glam songs and a second side (Side Two) which was comprised of longer, mostly instrumental sonic tone poems.

I was very anxious to hear Bowie's new album when it was released in 1977, as I'd become a huge fan of his work and had just the winter before, purchased my first Bowie album on release date (Station to Station in January 1976). Station To Station was such an incredible album and there was much anticipation and discussion about Bowie's new album that the was recording in Berlin with Eno!

At first listen, Low seemed to be a major letdown....a string of short tunes and the instrumental side (not too exciting for a Bowie fan), but after a repeated listens I began to realize what amazing music this album contained.....side one, at least. There is so much going on with those songs......even today I can honestly say that, no matter how many times I hear these songs, they seem to shift and sound so differently with each listen....like some glimmering dream that you can't quite place. I've never quite understood the power of Low's side one, and I guess that's part of the mystique and what continues to make this music so special.

This is my second video for my mini project for a video for each song from side One of Low, previously did one for "Sound And Vision". I was just experimenting with some effects with the album art and decided to go ahead and use some of what I was finding for a couple of videos..."A New Career In A New Town" and (right behind it) a very similar yet completely different ;-), "Speed Of Life". I should have spent more time adjusting the effects and the video would have been a bit cooler....needed to fine tune the art so that it would spiral around during the tunnel transitions (just got lazy!). Nice to be able to get a couple more behind me....very excited about "Always Crashing" and "Be My Wife".....those two most likely after I finish another Bowie effort (found myself fooling around with "Space Oddity" and think I can do something interesting)

Anyway, until next time....here is another one of those brilliant gems from the glorious side One of Low!!! Hope you enjoy the effort!

Now WHY must you come to my comment and type those words, my sleepydreamer friend! LOL! You realize you'll get me started thinking about trying to create something visual and different for "Bohemian Rhapsody"....which would be brutally challenging, especially since there is such a nice video already made. But the thought crosses my mind now and again to bravely/foolishly set about to the task? ;-) And your post here makes me think of 4 faces with similar effects? My dear Irene, thank you!
