Thank You, William Pittock. It sometimes seems a film maker has to hit the viewer over the head to get a point across. A Mighty Wind IS a respectful comedy using 60s Folk music as a base. All of the cast give what it needs for the viewer to have a full experience.

there is nothing like this today. Glee doesnt seem to have uplifting endings anymore. only the first two seasons had upllifting endings. even with finn gone hopefully they will give it an uplifting ending and not just be about pushing the gay agenda too far.

Shreveport is on the Red River and is named for Captain Henry Miller Shreve. It was/is a shipping port filled with barges/trawlers/steamboats. They now have riverboat gambling, that's why I like to go there! (cuz the town sux otherwise)

I heard that "The Folksmen" opened for Spinal Tap at a concert and were so convincing that they were booed off of the stage!

I love this movie! And just like Spinal Tap, it shows that despite all the bullshit and weirdness, musicians love the music. Thats why we do it. HOWEVER; I would REALLY love to know if Michael McKean realizes that Shreveport is a landlocked town 300 miles from the Gulf Coast when he wrote, "From a trawler down in Shreveport..." I actually wrote him and asked him that, but all I got in reply was a signed 8X10.

Every last one of these versatile entertainers is a genius. A parody of a music genre, molded into an improvised mockumentary, with songs like this both written and performed as earnestly as what we see here? It's inspiring, really.

It's a parody of the Kingston Trio. Listen to them.

This song appears to be a subtle parody of the Stalinist politics of so many folk singers -- "a mighty wind is blowing peace and freedom, it's blowing you and me!"
