It's funny because I was a teenager when this all went down and the resulting "ADVISORY" stickers started being applied to "dirty" albums. And yeah, my friends and I totally used those labels to decided which albums to buy. I remember frequent trips to the record store, looking at a couple CDs we were interested in (but only had the money for one that trip) and having the conversation "Well, this might be cool, but *this* albums has 'Explicit' content, so it's probably cooler." It definitely had the complete opposite effect. Not only that, but there obviously was no law saying "EXPLICIT CONTENT" albums couldn't be sold to anyone under a certain age. Some chains had their own official policy, but even that came down to who was behind the counter and whether they really cared enough to not sell you the album (none of them got paid enough to give a shit), so we wanted those albums more and there was nothing to stop us from buying them. The PMRC was a joke and totally screwed themselves in the end. And party in thanks to Mr Snyder, they'll be forever remembered as the punchline that they were.

I gain respect for Dee Snyder after seeing this. That being said, Twisted Sisters, Motley Crue, Poison and other similar bands are not metal bands but actually fag bands!

MTV sold out and supported the clinton gore ticket, knowing full well that if they won, that would put tipper gore as the vp wife.

i wrote a college essay on censorship and those subjects and this event took up at least 2 1/2 pages of analyzing i still think its important to music in general

It's true what Doc Coyle said about the Parental Advisory sticker "those albums probably sold more"... when I was 16, if it didn't have the sticker, I was like "should I buy this?" ... of course now we can just download.

Frank Zappa was the best musician to testify against the PMRC.

I thought this would be higher on the list, but I am glad to see this on the list. I recently read Dee Snider's book not too long ago, in a cool coincidence. He put his actual speech in the book, and every 5 seconds, I was like, OH SNAP. I loved it.

I was just reading about pmrc in ian christes book, its about the history of metal, anyway, dee really put them in their place by telling that government shouldnt judge music lyrics in any way and try to "warn" the kids, like, thats what their parents should do if they think its going to have a bad influence on them...they probably thougth oh now we are going to call the most controvertial artist in rock music that time to testify,i wonder what would he have to say in his defense, and then he mind blowed them cause he is a smart dude and wont let government tell him how to write his songs...the stickers were printed anyway but that wasnt that important as how dee stood up for metal and all metal fans and bands \m/ hell yeah, dee rules :) and thank u metal injection for this countdown,i love it :D
