John Frusciante - Look On

Album: Inside Of Emptiness (2004)

Inside of Emptiness is the sixth album by John Frusciante, and the fourth album of a six album series released from June 2004 to February 2005. It features Josh Klinghoffer and Omar Rodríguez-López as guest musicians.

Recorded in March and published in October 2004, John's fastest album to date might as well be the first one to think of when someone who hasn't followed his career and who's a fan of Red Hot Chili Peppers asks what to start with. From the distorted hot rocking beats of What I Saw to the melancolic falsetto of Scratches, with the floor vibrating from the screams in 666 and hearts melting at the warmth and openess of I'm Around and cruel reality of Look On, the song which features one of John's best guitar solos ever; Inside Of Emptiness is most likely the album where no skipping will occur, no matter who you are. Lyrically, just like all of John's other albums, it is much more complex. According to the author himself, three songs on the album were written while thinking about British occultist/mystic Aleister Crowley. Some of the music critics are refering to Inside Of Emptiness as something similar to what Shadows Collide With People would sound had it been unpolished and more raw. On the other side, this is obviously album where the electric guitar dominates, unlike on SCWP where each song has an accoustic guitar as the base instrument. Apart from usual contributor Josh Klinghoffer, the album also features a guest appearance of The Mars Volta's guitarist, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, and therefore the first of two times he and John experimented with what John called "joined guitars". Introverted, yet somewhat furious, slow-speaking yet unstoppable as he's always been; John'd created yet another memorable chapter in the history of modern rock music.

Lyrics:

I can't get through

Knots in my mind

I resent

The self I can't find

I can't get through

I can't get through

A paper and a pencil

Are the best friends I've got

I went to downtown LA.

Got picked up by the cops

I didn't get what i wanted

But I didn't care a lot

I saw that life was kidding

Look on, look on, look on

Look on, look on, look on

I'm warning you (uuuh laaa)

I skipped a life (uuuh laaa)

To be here (uuuh laaa, wow)

I've got no right (uuuh laaa, wow)

I'm bad luck

I'm bad luck

I used to feel a lot

Things used to be alright

So much was going on

I'm empty now inside

When I thought life was terrible

Things were going fine

Vincent called as a set up

Look on, look on, look on

Look on, look on, look on

It's not right

I lost my fame

It's a cheap trick

I wanna do it again

I've got no life

I've got no life

I am a separate entity

From the guy I was before

Here nobody wants me

I hoped for something more

I flip through empty pages

That I thought I wrote on

I can't tell what is dreaming

Look on, look on, look on

Look on, look on, look on

Look on, look on, look on

Look on, look on, look on

I love John's music but I always hate the way his tracks are mixed. The drums are always way down low.

people stop bitching about how the chili peppers aren't the same with out John, just stop, sure John was a huge part of their creative process, but he's not the heart and soul of the chili peppers Hillel is yea he's one of the co founders of the chili peppers. He's the one who thought flea how to play bass. The chili peppers with Hillel were different but they kicked ass, they had a raw funky sound, when he died the chili peppers changed, for the better. also give josh a chance I think he knows what he's doing he's worked with John before. josh is a great guitarist. It doesn't matter if johns not in the band the chili peppers will still thrive.
