Arziel Hill (September 30, 1935, Naples, Texas — April 27, 1984, Dallas, Texas[1]) known popularly as Z. Z. Hill, was an African American blues singer, in the soul blues tradition, known for his 1970s and 1980s recordings for Malaco. Previously he had also recorded for Kent, Action and Hill.

ZZ Hill's career was cut short when he died suddenly of a heart attack, after a road accident in 1984, at the age of 48.

The real soul singers are dying out like flies and I'm sure they could teach some of these younger pretenders a thing or two. Don't get me wrong, I like alot of the modern music but I always keep coming back to the classic artists like Z.Z Hill, Johnnie Taylor to name but a few. May they all RIP ; I am glad that they left us with a legacy of such great music to enjoy for decades to come.

Thanks for this one...I toured with the late Z.Z. Hill, whose given name is Razelle Hill....He was surely a great talent and I learned a lot from him!!!

@TheSocratease as far as i know, ZZ recorded this in 1969. I love Bettye Swanns version too (1967).Glad you like my selection. I just posted what i considered to be great soul tunes that at the time, were ignored and not on here. As with all tunes, some will comment on who has the best version according to taste. What matters to me is that a version is posted that serves as an alternative. Neither better or worse, but in the case of my Oscar Toney Jr posts, in my opinion always better!
