Man, I don't get the hype around this. It sounds like a low-budget track to a crappy mystery movie.

In 1999 the group declared: “Ulver is obviously not a black metal band and does not wish to be stigmatized as such. We acknowledge the relation of part I & III of the Trilogie (Bergtatt & Nattens Madrigal) to this culture, but stress that these endeavours were written as stepping stones rather than conclusions. We are proud of our former instincts, but wish to liken our association with said genre to that of the snake with Eve... (continues...)

@MrMerlin87, because 90% of the time it leads to pointless genremasturbation and even more pointless bitching. yeah, i do get the basic idea what you're going to do with it but barely ANiYONE is as sensible with it as you seem to. i myself browse by bands by people, not by genres. there are sites like encyclopedia metallum that link bands with people. its easy to see what the guy has done, and what other bands he's linked to. then its just a matter of checking the name out. tadah! problem solv'd

why is everyone so opposed to people placing music into genres? ok fair enough some people do get carried away.. but identifying music into genres helps others find other musicians with a similar sound. otherwise how would they know where to look?

@LEG0B0Y agree apart from last bit. I say listen to both but don't compare. It's not hard to do.

@TheYersinia666 caring about genres doesn't mean you're not open minded.

@Ascellius Wow, I've never gotten such a pissy response to a comment that's over a yeard old. The point I was making was that you can't compare Ulver's new to Ulver's old. Jesus.

@80smetalchild I think I've literally received the reply to listen to both at least two dozen times.

@dakotamanomgwtf Actually Ive listened almost only to diffrent genres of metal before including some old black metal bands like mayhem, dimmu borgir, burzum, immortal, emperor, old agalloch songs, summoning songs and many more than I could ever remember. Just that Ive since then Ive moved away from metal and only listen to it time to time. Most of the black metal I didnt like but really I say that about almost all bands in whatever genre I hear so that doesnt really mean anything.
