The best, the ONLY version of this song worth listening to is By Stapleton. He is easily the best singer/songwriter out there right now.

As far as cuts on this song, it's Eady>Stapleton>McGraw

Chris Stapleton is a great writer and him doing this song really showcases the gravity found in the lyrics but for my money, the definitive take on this is by Jason Eady.

Tim McGraw sings this song better than Chris Stapleton

Best version is Chapter 11 featuring Aubrey Lynn England. Just received Record of the Year at Texas Music Awards in March.

I think if Tim Mcgraw did this live and acoustic, it would have the same impact as when Chris does it. More emotion when you see someone sing like that.

I gotta say Tim did what Tim does on this song. It's a great song and he sings it well. Chris just puts more heart and soul into his version.

Sorry Tim. Love ya and everything but the way Chris Stapleton delivered this song was much better. There is no soul in the way you did it. Terrible.

@Bj Ellison Chris actually just writes for a publisher, and they got the song cut. Nobody "hires" writers for songs in this Nashville. Any given artist, including Tim McGraw, and their entire A&R staff listen to hundreds, if not thousands of songs. Artists cut Chris's songs because his songs are some of the best in town, and every artist in town admires his voice.

actually chris stapleton is usually a hired writer, normally he knows who he is writing the song for when he writes it

Strange that this chapter 11 claims to be so much better. If I was to get a song and make it better would I be an artistic genius? Or would I be a plagiarizer? You can't just take someone's song, make it sound better and then call it art?! Create your own song and then compare it to Tim. BTW Chapter 11 does sound better, but I can't give them credit for it. It was a song already created. I will have to judge IF they create their own song! So stop bitchin' and listen to your favorite version!!

Amen Jimmy. I think Chris is pretty good where he is at and not being part of everything bad. It seems to keep him fresh and active. Without all the hassles. These dipshits probably think that Tim the tool actually writes his songs. Ridiculous. Chris smokes this by light years and he only has to play it on acoustic.

somebody took a lot of time to look up the song just so they can bash it while its playing on there speaker.. what the hells up with that? spent more energy talking shit than it would have to just listen to Chris Stapleton's version of the song.. that's just my opinion I'm not saying everyone will agree.. but Sheesh give me brake. lol
