I was a kid in the early 70's and this blew me away, but no one seemed to "get it." It's pretty cool to see how many younger people today do "get" and appreciate Tim's courage and creativity.

I think it's great.....Honestly, I do..... About time we had someone pushing the envelope like this did.....!

I can imagine Brian from 'Spaced' listening to this, for his fix of 'Fear and Pain'...

Word. The live version on the Honeyman album is great too. But my favorite song of his is Driftin'. And I listened to this last two albums before his passing. Unfortunately, I see what everyone is talking about. I couldn't believe I was listening to Tim.

I haven't listened to Sefronia and Look at the Fool. Frankly I'm a little bit scared to given the reviews they get. But I think Greetings from L.A. was a god record. Sweet Surrender is one of his best songs in my opinion.

So the period of his depression and disillusionment with the music industry is really his last few albums: Greetings from L.A., Sefronia, and Look at the Fool.

lol oh ok I didn't realize you were joking. What I read in the book Dream Brother was that after Starsailor they started to reel him in and control him more. So starting with Greetings from L.A. was the more controlled output, but that's not to say GFLA was no good, though you get the impression that it was not the music he wanted to do. Then from there he brought back Larry Beckett to hopefully get back the success that he had with his second album... check out the book, it is a good read.

It was a joke my friend. By the way, what albums are you referring to when you talk about him being forced to make music that he wasn't happy with?

David Duncan

Oh yeah of course the drugs. But it was partly circumstances in his life and with his record company and not being able to make the music that he wanted to make, that contributed to him spiraling out of control and becoming depressed. I suppose there's more than just one thing that brought about his death. Snorting heroin isn't one of the smartest things to do.

Yeah. That and the drugs.

Me and my future wife are going to share our first dance to this song at our wedding.

Hum I first got in touch with this more avant garde Buckley, only later I found his folk side, that´s why I was surprised with what you said before. Yes if he was folk and then changed to this I can imagine the label reaction xD If you like avant garde you have to check out Zappa. The 2 or 3 albums of Mothers of Invention and then Zappa´s solo records Hot Rats and Uncle Meat. Start with Peaches en Regalia( masterpiece). cheers!

I remember reading about it in the book Dream Brother. He was an artist who was gaining popularity early on with Goodbye and Hello and he gradually branched out and became more experimental, peaking with Starsailor, which I supposed alienated his original fanbase and irritated the record company. I don't know much about Zappa's story but his weirdness and eccentricity was part of his appeal - it wasn't unexpected like Tim's experimental records would have been.

I´m not saying you are wrong but Its strange that the record company wanted him to change because he sign with the same agent as Frank Zappa, they both belong to the labels DiscReet and Straight(at a time, Tim was also with Elektra) and Zappa had some weird awesome records.
