Reading the comments on here has confirmed my opinion of Mr Gedge. I've never met him (despite having seen The Weddoes at their height in the late 80's / early 90's on several occasions) when I was a student. I lived my life by the tenets of George Best.... My Favourite Dress is still my favourite song to this day. Good on ya, Dave.

Saw these guys last night in Prague. Awesome is the word to use. And David was signing records and chatting to fans after the gig. I shook his hand...made my year! he's a real gent and a great musician - LEGEND!!

I never met them but I saw them 3 times. It was awesome when they did the 'Ukranians' tour and they supported themselves. David Gedge always had so much fun onstage.

i spoke to him when he did the live @ leeds gig early nineties at leeds poly..he was just pleasant and nice and normal, like any dude you'd meet in the pub...i never heard this one properly before, its one thats slipped the net with me, as i was only 13 in 88, and even tho i loved the weds with all my heart, i couldnt afford all their albums, so i just had 1 tape that a m8 of my dad had recorded various weddo songs on around seamonsters time...wicked, is nice to hear a 'new' to me one...

He is an absolute LEGEND, I met him at a gig at The Ritz in Manchester at a benefit gig for the ambulance men who were on strike. He was just sat on the table were they were selling T-Shirts and he was just so normal ,a true gent

Met Mr Gedge several times and he has never been less than charming. Just after Bizarro came out I wrote to the fan club asking if I could interview the band for my fanzine. Not only did David phone up my house in person to arrange the interview, he arranged it for a time when I wasn't studying (it was my college days) A true legend and still writing great songs 25 years into his career. Can't wait for the 21st anniversary of Bizarro tour.

Ashtree, you've got it spot on. Perfect analysis. And yeah, I did meet him, at one of his own gigs. Dublin 1995 or 6. While the support band was on ( I knew the lads in that band) he's quietly queueing up with every other punter to get himself a pint, and then he stood in the audience to listen to the support. I had a quick word, as you would with any punter at a gig. Peel was no idiot, he could recognise that combination of genius and true modesty.

Any Weddoe's fan who's ever spoken to Dave Gedge (and there must be thousands) will know that he comes across as a very decent, likeable bloke. If he'd spent the last 24 years disappearing up his own a***hole like Morrissey he'd no doubt be lauded as one of this country's best artists. Lyric wise Dave Gedge p***** on Morrissey from a great height.
