The Supremes, the gloriously talented Jean Terrell, the fabulously beautiful and talented Mary Wilson, along with Lynda Lawrence sing and perform "Bad Weather" written and produced by the MAN!....Stevie Wonder (Ira Tucker Jr, co-writer) in this clip from

April 19,1973.

There is some serious Supreme business going on here..........!!!

I love this song and the way Jean appears to just revel in the power of her own voice here. Superb performance on all counts!

Regarding "Bad Weather" and "Promises Kept," it was not part of that album project but instead was the first track produced by Stevie Wonder for an album intended to follow the Jimmy Webb album. One other song, "Soft Days," was nearly completed. Most of the instrumental tracks for the album ended up on the first side of a brilliant Syreeta album Stevie Wonder produced. Also, the Supremes went back into the studio to redo "Bad Weather" to give it the opening subsequently used in Supremes concert but when that sessions was done Mary learned it was too late as the original version was being released. Mary moved heaven and earth to keep the Supremes going but Motown had moved on to younger acts. In person, the Supremes just got more any more brilliant. There was a renaissance with the album "High Energy," a real work of art Motown did get behind.

I remember this song was i was a "lad' growing up in England, i thought it was fab and i still do. It should have been a major hit, and maybe Berry Gordy has a few questions to answer as to why these three talented ladies were not promoted more. Thesong of course has got Stevie written all over it, especially as it breaks out towards the end. The best female band of all time. love these ladies just wish i could get a good backing track for my set, tighten my pants and hey i'm away !

Thank you "DetroitLives313" for this "GEM"……………………"BAD WEATHER" was supposed to be the first single release from the Album/CD "Promises Kept", never released until 2013, by Hip-O-Select on "This Is The Story Of The Supremes, The Jean Terrell Years Compilation" on which all the material recorded by THE SUPREMES with Jean Terrell in the 1970's reached the fans in one comprehensive collection. Finally, this song along many in "the vault", material never released saw the light of day, brilliant!

I'm reading Mary Wilson's book "Supreme Faith" and it's heartbreaking reading how she tried to keep momentum going for The Supremes after Diane's departure but that Berry Gordy seemed intent on squashing the group. Doesn't make sense. Why wouldn't he have wanted a continuing supergroup and a solo superstar (Diane)? Wouldn't this have made him that much richer?

Unfortunately BAD WEATHER got little or no airplay in the US. I think it fared a bit better in the UK.

Few young black professionals were into The Supremes in the 70's. I used to lug Supremes 45s to parties and give LPs to friends just to give the girls exposure...and listen to NATHAN JONES every chance I got! The Supremes were very popular in discos in 1975/76 and YOU'RE MY DRIVING WHEEL greeted me as I stepped into a private house party one night. The DJ and I played their disco hit all night and the dancers loved it! Diana Ross, Mary Wilson & I will be 70 years young this year.

I remember a black DJ in Orlando, Florida did not want to play this song when a listener called in to request "Bad Weather". He insinuated The Supremes were too "white" or too Pop.

I do not like Jean's vocals here. I prefer the single version, which is funkier, in the Stevie Wonder funk style, not all this "lyrical wailing". I like Jean Terrell very much, but she sometimes perform things without the precise stylie the original production had. And "Bad Weather" was not like this.
