now, just to be sure; this isn't the Scorpions of 80s metal fame correct? It's easy to think it is because even that Scorpions began as a German beat group...

@ilsken The Scorpions from Manchester were founded by singer Peter Lewis in 1962. They moved to The Netherlands in the summer of 1964 where they obtained a recording contract for CNR Records. They released 5 singles in 1964 (and many more in 1965-66), so it is improbable, no: impossible that they "stole" the name from the "later" Status Quo. By theway: there was an English instrumental band called the Scorpions who recorded for Parlophone as early as 1961, so obviously it was popular band name.

Funny enough my Mum's partner is the lead singer of The Scorpions, (Graham) he was the lead guitarist and backing vocals but after the lead singer died he has taken over as the lead Vocals/Guitarist. My Favourite track of theirs is Tabacco Road! They are going to Holland at the begining of October for another sell out tour!

Bizzare, that this band was only huge in Holland. I had their singles...in retrospect they're a bit lightweight ,not as good as the Pretty Things for example.

I thought the same, then I discovered these are not the Hannover scorpions but the Manchester ones. I love this medieval song anyway in almost every possible version!!

Send me a personal message and I'll write you how to get in touch with Harry de Jager of Hunter Records in The Netherlands. They released the 24-track "Hello Josephine / Climbing the charts" cd (HMR 15922) as well as the earlier 2cd. Harry used to be with CNR records (from Scheveningen, The Netherlands), the company that had the Scorpions under contract from 1964-1966. Their producer was the late Addy Kleingeld. The first album was recorded in the Telefunken studios in West-Berlin.

That 2CD by Hunter (The complete collection, Hunter HRD 13602) has been deleted. It came out in 1998, not 2005, so the license ran out. Might still hang around in some shops, though............ The first two albums are available on one cd at the moment. Give my regards to Terrence!
