oh, come on, in real live every one of you would choose Raul. Erik is too emotionaly unstable (if not mental).

um....isn't the phantom supposed to be horribly disfugured. He looks like he's hot no more than a bad sunburn

*SPOILER* She does sleep with him. These is a second opera in which she has a son, the phantom's son

I never understood why in every production when Christine takes off his mask in this number his hair suddenly lessens and turns white, it didn't do that the first time

That's the real reason she takes off the mask - the one and only way she can keep herself from running off with the Phantom.

I don't buy for one minute it ends this way. If this was real Christine would be ready to drag the Phantom off to bed and would not tolerate anything other than that happening. If it was me - boy I would ready to rock the Phantom's world!

I don't see it being that white and black. the Phantom had much goodness in him and truly loved Christine more than Raoul could have. Raoul was the safe guy but limited qualities.

Raoul was not capable of the passion of the Phantom. And Raoul did not tell the managers how crazy they were not to cast Christine. The Phantom appreciated Christine far more than Raoul could ever have. Raoul was the safe acceptable choice.

but there are a lot of times in the movie where Christine really seems in love with the Phantom. are we to believe she feels that way out of attachment to the voice who guided her all those lonely years? is she fascinated with him despite her fear? even at this point in the movie, she seems in love with him, although she was part of the trap. is she faking it that well?

Honestly, I think Gerard sang this number better than any Phantom. You can just feel the overwhelming emotion even though it's just a movie/musical.

This movie was ok I thought the Phantom's make up was a little disappointing

I think that the Phantom and Raoul symbolize our lightest and darkest attributes. Both are enticing, and both promise fulfillment be it of light or dark nature. The trouble is that the Phantom, much like our inner darkness, was never taught what love means, so he tries to gain Christine's affection through the means he knows: manipulation, deception, and in the end, he realizes when she gives in to him, he was selfish in how he loved her, so he let her go to Raoul who was promise of goodness.
