그리고 나는 토끼 굴 속으로당신을 따라가지 않을 거예요난 함께 가겠다고 말했었죠하지만 그런 후에나를 만류하는당신의 떨리는 뼈들을 보았어요그건 지독한 사랑이죠거미들과 함께 걷고 있어요끔찍한 사랑으로나는 걸어들어가고 있어요부서지지 않으려면 바다가 필요해요부서지지 않기 위해서는 바다가 있어야 해요-더 내셔널, 지독한 사랑더 내셔널은 딕션이 부정확한 편이라 안 그래도 난해한 가사를 더 이해하기 어려울 때가 있는데, 이 노래의 경우에는 버디가 맑고 또렷한 목소리로 리메이크한 이래로 제법 분명해졌다. 그래도 이상한 가사임에는 변함이 없지만.논쟁적인 글을 최대한의 선의를 발휘하여 읽어내려가는 것처럼 예술의 분과에 속하는 텍스트는 최대한 시적인 것으로 이해하려고 노력하게 된다. 비루한 외국어 능력까지 더해져, 나는 많은 텍스트와 타이틀을 이런 식으로 오해해 왔다. 대표적인 예로 사강의 <슬픔이여, 안녕>이나 노도철의 시트콤 <안녕 프란체스카>의 '안녕'을 나는 오랜 시간동안 만남의 인사가 아닌 이별의 인사로 오해했었다. 여러가지 해석이 가능하다면 나는 대체로 더 슬프고 물기 있는 쪽을 택하게 된다. 그 편이 더 시적이라고 무심결에 생각해버리는 것 같다.<지독한 사랑>의 가사 중 '당신의 떨리는 뼈들your shiver bones'이라는 구절을 '슬픔의 배the ship of woes'로 표기한 가사 페이지들을 몇 번인가 보았다. 오류의 아름다움.가사의 진실이 어떠하든 간에 슬픔은 배를 타고 갈 것이다. 물기와 슬픔은 거미와 끔찍한 사랑처럼 늘상 함께 가는 것이고, 그 슬픔으로 부서지지 않으려면 바다가 필요할 테니까.9 years ago
