The solo was taken from a John Coltrane sax passage.

George was a generous man. Also a sneaky one! The solo on "While My Guitar..." is actually Eric Clapton! (A lot of you probably knew that, but a lot probably didn't!) George pretty much GAVE Patti to Eric, seeing he was so smitten with her & they were in love - how much love for your fellow man can one person have?! Amazing man. I'm not surprised to learn he had something to do with McGuinn's Rick.

I live in Seattle. When the EMP was built, we went. When we hit the guitar room, I instinctively went over to Roger/Jim's photo of him & his infamous Rickenbacker - and the Rick was behind the glass as well. When this song started. I began to cry. My son, around 12 at the time, "caught" it and I saw a tear escape HIS eye, too. Raised on Dylan & the Byrds - among SO many others, I didn't expect THAT, but I expected something. We were in awe.

This song remindes me of the 24 hour trip I took with Dr.Bob.. Well this and the other Byrds song 'Natural Harmony'.

No, McGuinn got the 12 string sound from the Beatles. Rock and Roll originated with the Everly Brothers, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Buddy Holly. Before Elvis, there was nothing. - John Lennon

Credit George Harrison for McGuinns 12 string guitar... "They (The Beatles) were our heroes. They were absolutely what we thought we wanted to do. We listened to every note they played, and savored it, and rubbed it on our foreheads, and were duly affected by it." -David Crosby
