ashamed to say that I actually lived there for 7 & 1/2 yrs., one of the worst towns in east tx., if not the, so like the song, hate the town, and only the inbred yokels who were born and raised there call it palesteen, to the rest of us normals in the real world, it's Palestine, like the middle east country

I've never heard any of the old people from Palestine, TX pronounce it like the other Palestine, the one that was where Israel is now. I've always heard them pronounce it as PaleSTEEN.

It's actually named after Palestine, Illinois, which is also pronounced PaleSTEEN. Palestine, Illinois, was the hometown of some of the founding fathers of Palestine, TX (namely the Parker family of Cynthia Ann Parker fame) and they were the ones who were instrumental in getting the town in Texas named Palestine, after their former hometown of Palestine, Illinois.

Maybe not, though, because I've run into LOTS of people who don't know how it's pronounced and they pronounce it wrongly.

I know that, but in Texas, when referring to the town of Palestine, located in and the county seat of Anderson County, it's pronounced PaleSTEEN, not the way it's pronounced when referring to the land now known as Israel.

As an Arab from Jerusalem I can say the 'P' itself is a mistake as we call the country(or remnants of it) Fal-Las-Teen. There's no P in Arabic or Hebrew. It's generally substituted for a 'Fay' in Hebrew or a Ba(in both). Hence Biblical Philistin or numerous jokes on Arabs who can't distinguish between BP(British Petroleum) or BB(small projectiles for kids). I can't speak for other Semitic languages but these two don't have P. He pronounces it with the 'correct' Western pronunciation.

"This version of the world will not be here long... It is already gone. It is already gone." Very suggestive of a finished work of the Cross perspective to me.
