Dude's awesome at that point, yet he was at his worst point regarding his massive heroin and crack addictions right there. Ultimate functional addict.

Steve Earle - The Other Kind (Live) I woke up this morning and I took a look around at all that I got These days I've been lookin' in the mirror and wondering if that's me lookin' back or not I'm still the apple of my mama's eye I'm my daddy's worst fears realized Here of late all this real estate don't seem all that real to me sometimes I'm back out on that road again Turn this beast into the wind There are those that break and bend I'm the other kind, I'm the other kind Now my old buddy, what's his name, says, "Man what the hell are you thinkin' 'bout Fool, you got two of everything, but you hang your head just like you was down and out" And I'm damn sure not suffering from a lack of love There's plenty more where that came from Ah - but leave it up to me to say something wrong and hurt someone before I'm done You see it used to be I was really free I didn't need no gasoline to run Before you could say Jack Kerouac you'd turn your back and I'd be gone Yeah nowadays I got me two good wheels and I seek refuge in aluminum and steel Aw, it takes me out there for just a little while And the years fall away with every mile... ...........:)O(:...........

well, you are wrong about that, sorry about the off night, maybe he wanted to sing and not sing over you. i've seen him many, many times, never once did he give anything less than 100% and $5000 worth of music for a $25.00 ticket. would walk across glass to see him. i'd give him another chance and listen for a change. just saying.

This song spoke volumes to me as a 12 year old kid. I have The Other Kind tattooed on my right arm with the skull and crossbones from the Copperhead Road album cover except I replaced the shield with Harley Davidson wings!

Agreed - not sure it was Earle who was being a jerk. Though I think part of the problem is that Steve's work varies so much, that he has folks who love the more subdued folk leaning music and those who want to rock. Unfortunately acceptable audience behavior for a rock concert is different from a folk concert. But I say if it is a seated venue, calm down a bit and don't come in sloppy drunk.

If that was the last time you saw him, I encourage you to go see him now, Has a great band (though leaning a little more to folk they can still rock when called to). And he has been clean a good long while now, so that kind of behavior is a thing of the past.

Forgot to add - his cassettes of Guitar Town and Exit O, kept me company on many long drives and many long nights.

Huge fan from Guitar Town on. However, I saw him during the Copperhead Road tour, and he showed up very late, while we were left standing outside in the cold. When they finally let us in two hours later, he took almost an hour to tune his guitars. I was pretty pissed after that show. But I still do respect him greatly for his songwriting abilities. That was a long time ago, and I wish him nothing but the best now.

@laserelvis that is kind of douchy of you. There's other people there trying to enjoy his music and no one needs an attention whore in the front row.

This was back when he was truly badass..I was a HUGE fan then..Sadly I saw him in concert here in Austin I was in the front row at The Backyard and he was a complete jackass to me for just trying to guess the next song he started to play..I lost respect for him after that and he was never that popular since then..

I got a chance to meet Steve and get his autograph when he performed in Gateshead. I was truly honoured. His music had played a huge part in my life and kept my head held high during the rocky times
