Love this song but the picture is way out of place. The mountain pertains to coal country/ bluegrass country...The picture is of western USA and not a speck of coal can be found.....just saying..

Thanks Mr. Earle for a taste of your new music! It NEVER ceases to amaze me how some folks bitch about free music... the SWEET thing about YouTube is it gives us a chance to hear the music before we buy it... and have a choice of songs, without having to buy an entire album for one song we love! I HOPE to see you in Missoula Montana for your concert if my health holds, if not a whole lot of my friends will relive the experience for me!!! LOVE your music!!!!!

Lost my great grandpa William H. Commerford in the 1883 Pocahontas Mine disaster. He died along with another 113 souls on that fatal day in Tazewell Virginia when people awoke to "that rumble way down in the ground"....I would like to pay homage,as Steve did, to all the men and women we have lost in the mine... @CoachLanceSmith..Neither party every has or ever will give a damn about the workin' slob..Wake the hell up...

I knew every holler... every cool swimmin' hole. And my childhood was over... went down in The Mine. (such a touching song) Miners need to vote Democrat.

The picture of the small towm from the mountain top is Jasper, Alberta, Canada! Jasper National Park. An amazing place.

Great job Steve! This song reminds me of what's happening in Val di Susa, Italy, where a bunch of speculators are trying to destroy a mountain valley and a whole community just to make huge profits with a useless (even for the national economy) fast train called TAV. The population is resisting and the governement have militarized the whole valley! NO TAV!

@BigDipper13 Helm's voice is made for this song. I love both versions.

I would HIGHLY recommend the Levon Helm cover of this beautiful song. The Levon rendition will make the hair on your arm stand up, chilling and powerful.

@chillypepper530 Coal mining is more dangerus and less prosperous, and as the song states, those stripmining bastards take away miner's jobs and destroy the land.
