The most `moving` voice I have ever heard. I cry when he sings `This Nearly Was Mine`.....if ever you read this Maureen you will know what I mean.

BarBara Luna played Ezio Pinza's daughter in the original 1949 stage production, that might be her at 2.30. She signed a photo of herself with Pinza for me at the Memphis Film Festival in 2011

Agree with you, Pinza is so charming too.

I'm in my 70s and after all this time still think that Carousel and South Pacific have the greatest music in the musical comedy genre - nothing can touch them.

Sends shivers down your spine as soon as the first note hits you. Was there ever such a voice in musical comedy history!!

My parents saw this on Broadway. My mother told me that when Pinza held the last note in this song it was very soft and yet reverberated throughout the theater so that it could be heard in the last row of the balcony. And that was without any microphones. She said he was just an amazing performer.

Spectacular! Pinza was said to have been seriously post-prime by the time "South Pacific" premiered. Wrong! He sounds as good as he ever did or very close.

I have listening to them since I was a child. This is one that will never fade; on of the most impressive stories and Musical scores ever !

How they got Pinza is amazing. I have this vinyl. Also have the movie version with Rosano Bazzi. But who can with Ezio Pinza ?

I was brought up on Ezio Pinza's "This Nearly was Mine" and of course "Some Enchanted Evening". which was mine and my late wife's favourite. Then YouTube opened up a fabulous array of different singers and interpretations of these songs.. Pinza won hands down.. His rich, golden, mellifluous clear diction is impossible to beat. Oh, yes and we mustn't forget the tenor version with Carerras's beautifully soft, almost innocent singing of these wonderful . songs

Absolute magic - arguably the greatest natural bass baritone of the mid-20th century. And what music. This is the sort of music the mass of uneducated people listened to everyday and took for granted. Johhny Rotten? Lady Gaga? I don't think so. Thank yo for posting this masterpiece.
