With a little help from his friends (production came from Fu-Schnickens, Ali from A Tribe Called Quest, Def Jef, and Erick Sermon), basketball's brightest star of the early '90s, Shaquille O'Neal, released Shaq Diesel, a 1993 album showcasing his moderate rapping talents. The following year, he released Shaq-Fu: Da Return. In 1996, O'Neal released The Best of Shaquille O'Neal early in November, followed a week later by his third album, You Can't Stop the Reign. He returned in 1998 with Respect.

Many missed the point....he didnt make this rap to be a hit, he made it to give love to his step dad and the opposite to his sperm donor father

This is real life to some people. Much respect Mr. Harrison, Mr. O'Neal, and Mr. Onassis (AKA Erick Sermon).

I'm glad that though his real dad didn't step up, Shaq didn't just reject Phil out of bitterness and actually appreciated him

shaq went to my college...i used to see him walking around the quad with his entourage or riding in his explorer around baton rouge...he was a big deal, but he never acted like he was...i'm glad he turned out the way he did...

A solid message, good production. Shaq was at least sincere in trying to push some boundaries here- he could have just been rapping about his luxury lifestyle as a pro ballplayer (which, compared to the average rapper just starting out, Shaq's tales of multiple cars, mansions and bling would have actually been very true).
