I love this every bit as much and maybe more than the more "accessible" stuff

Reminds me of a slightly less disturbing version of Coil

I was introduced to him by Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth. Not Pitchfork.

This is very unpleasant! Scott's voice can portray heaven or hell. This is hell. If I wanted to slit my wrists I'd listen to this to encourange me in the act. Used to love Scott's work - so glad we have a backlog of his wonderful recordings which were pure heaven. As an artist it is his perogative - but it can be so disappointing to the majority of his older fans. I guess he has moved on and we oldies are still hankering after the good old days when his recordings used to knock our socks off!

It's avant-garde. It's supposed to be unsettling and unusual, but the instrumentation is also very meticulous. Probably the most interesting thing about this album, though, is how different it sounds from Scott Walker's early work. Compare this stuff to his self-titled albums from the 60s. It's two completely different worlds.

When you've sung it all before, when you've heard it all before, when melody and rhythm are toys to be slaves to your every whim-this is where Scott explores and cultivates fresh crops of foreboding fear and loathing -he could soothe you or could serenade you, but as sure as pain is real, he will startle you and you will never leave his imagination's mysteries unmoved

I'm inclined to agree. This guy got hurt years ago and the wound seems to keep getting wider, at least with his music.
