I would agree that Lifeson is among the gods of the guitar world, but... John Petrucci... Don't believe there could ever be anyone better than Lifeson? Listen to Breaking All Illusions by Dream Theater.

Lifeson's THE BEST. Not one of the best, THE BEST. He makes his solos fit the song, shredding when he needs to or keeping it slower and melodic as needed. But, the solos always evoke emotion within the listener. You can remember a Lifeson solo as opposed to one of those mindless speed demons like Malmsteen.
