People are going to be negative no matter what, even artists like Beyoncé ( who some apparently feel is better than Rihanna) has negative people all over the comments sections of her videos, so it is what it is. It seems today that no one bother to actually DO THEIR RESEARCH...why claim that Rihanna's album sales are fabriacted, when you have the world wide web at your fingertips and can find out the truth for yourself. And I am so sick of people bringing Michael Jackson's name into a conversation concerning greatness, because NO ONE ,especially Americans were willing to say any of that stuff when that beautiful man was still alive. Most of the hatred comes from American viewers / consumers of pop culture. Even today, its a problem for most Americans to see a black artist (male or female) be successful. Some say GaGa deserved it...let me ask you all this, if you say Rihanna shouldn't have won for only having 8 years in the industry ( at the time of this broadcast) then how does Lady Gaga deserve it, and she came onto the scene in 2009..?? That right there shows how racism plays a part in trying to bring down artists like this. It's cool for Katy Perry or Miley Cyrus to act wild sometimes, and drink, and even have multiple boyfriends /husbands who are all involved in the industry, but if Rihanna does any of those things, then she's a "whore" and a "bad role model" and also doesn't deserve her accolades? Some of you need to realize that Rihanna burst onto the music scene right before this "social media" era took off, and was killing it out here before "twitter" and "instagram"...so none of that shit means anything involving her success. For me Rihanna IS a role model, because she is her own woman. She does not let the world tell her what a woman is and how a woman should act. According to ignorant ass America, and half of the rest of the world, women shouldn't express their sexuality unless a man tells them that it is ok...which is bullshit. She stands for strong women, and shows the world that we have the RIGHT to live how we choose to! And for that reason, along with her stellar stats is why she won this award. All you young kids shouting Michael's name must not know that the KING OF POP won a similar award during this very awards show back in 1984, and no one thought he deserved it then either! ( you're on YouTube so look up the video of him winning I you have never seen it) I hope Rihanna never stops, and continues to shine through all the ignorance thrown her way
