" to that pool inside the forest in whose waters I must drown" Have you ever almost drowned? I have. Have you ever dreamed your own death--or aftermath thereof? MIne was a scene straight out of Mark Twain--a riverboat firing it's deck gun in an attempt to dislodge my bloated corpse from the embrace of the roots or flood wrack holding it down somewhere in Car of Commerce Chute... Sometimes I wonder if I never really did make the surface of the lake in time; like when they replay Incident at Owl Creek Bridge on reruns of Alfred Hitchcock... Contemplate hell. Why should it begin as the full-blown fire-and-brimstone hell we've all been brainwashed is "hell"? If it's for all eternity why should it not begin seeming to be a "normal life" which ever-so-slowly degenerates into a Btfsplk-esque concatenation of from-bad-to-worse events with the trend always being from-bad-to-worse? Sound familiar? Ever had a "brush" with Death from which you escaped by the skin-of-your teeth? Well; maybe you didn't... Maybe you're just in the "orientation" phase of aitch ee double-hockey-sticks. Howdy neighbor!

A friend gave me a this album in '73 because he didn't like it much. Now it's one of my all time favorites. A true classic. Thank you Phil where ever you are!!!!!

I saw them live at least 5 times!!!! They toured at the release of every new album, like this one. they played in Montreal quite often. They usually opened the set with Shine on Brightly.

I wish the internet was around when I tried to understand a line from the Devil Came from Kansas - Granted I was stoned but it was quite a quest. I always thought the Zig Zag Man resembled the sailor on Salty Dog more than he does today - perhaps it is a new icon. Great, great song.
