Seen a few times since 60s. 7th row at Tower Theater in Philly, Upper Darby, and spoke in normal voice asking for Whiter Shade of Pale, and got it. Acoustics outrageously great.

I think in the last two days I've listened to this about 8 times! I was just out of high school when this came out.  And now, having learned the lyrics, it just makes me cry. So full of emotion with this wonderful orchestra. I think it helped me beat the guy I play racquetball with yesterday having it become implanted in my brain! ;D

Why or how did the error in lyrics happen? The incorrect -- "I see there is no, only all," makes no sense but I guess "I see there is no aureole" is confusing because no one knows what AUREOLE means. Yes, had to look it up. Anyway, thanks to Frank for filling in the blank there.

First screen "its sheen", not "it's sheen".

Bogframe: This is one of my favorites! Heard it when I was 11 (1972) at a girlfriend's house because her Dad was playing it. The guitars & orchestra intrigued me since my virgin ears hadn't heard much rock music yet. Agree with you about the "orchestra" & how many times it isn't successful with the exception of ELO. They managed to make their music work with an orchestra.

Fix the lyrics, should be: "and as the gloom begins to fall I see there is no aureole"au·re·ole: nouna circle of light or brightness surrounding something, especially as depicted in art around the head or body of a person represented as holy.

So, I saw someone commented by the lack of comments. So I will share a story....I am involved in a high profile nightclub case in NYC. My own celebrity lawyer's partner sued me for a million dollars , says I defamed him - make a long story short - they came to court with criminal lawyers against just me, pro se. I beat them and I had their vexatious lawsuit dismissed. I played this song w/my girlfriend as we left NYC outside the Holland Tunnel with the NYC skyline to my East and right before I entered onto the NJTP - It was a good day - and "although you came with sword held high, you did not conquer only die....." The song suggests that the conquistador was killed while fighting on a beach--perhaps against French pirates at Havana in 1555 or Dutch raiders at Acapulco in 1624.

More often than not, when a rock band tries to have an orchestra backing it up, it turns out to be a clusterfuck. This is one of these rare occasions where the stars aligned and everything fell into place magnificently...and in Quad! My only regret is that they didn't film this as well.

Comments? Well. English dudes made awesome fine song about conquistadors. How about their englishmen acts in the history? Maybe not so nice with indians etc..I don't mean to be after wise, but still..sounds a bit like turning the search light away from own ground anyways. Still they did bad things-conquistadors.
