This song was performed - fully completed structurally aside from a few lyrics here and there - only 4 days after Kurt's body was found. It was not wrtten specifically about Cobain. It has some parallels between their 2 lives but sorry folks, this wasn't a letter to the dead. R.I.P. you awesome son of a bitch .

Eddie was a fan of Kurt and Nirvana, Kurt thought Eddie was a nice guy but wasn't into Pearl Jam. That's life, Pearl Jam and Nirvana competed to be the best, Nirvana kicked down the door, but Pearl Jam continued to innovate and create great music after Kurt checked out. RIP Kurt and Rock on Pearl Jam (the best band of the last 18+ years)
