His voice is absolutely haunting. Utterly brilliant.

Have you listened to Ivan Rebroff? He has a wonderful voice and is one of my favourites, but when I heard him sing one of Paul Robeson's songs it just doesn't make the grade, horses for courses as they say and in all the rest of his songs are fantastic. :)

you're right it has never been equalled, and robeson's voice won't ever be equalled. but it's a bass, and even a basso profundo, not a barotone, tho he had the range to go up too to baritone. it was a once off phenomenon of greatness - huge range, amazing quality, and always, always in tune. never been equalled and won't likely ever be. you were so lucky to hear him.

I first heard this wonderful singer when I was a small child. I don't dwell in the past as some of the people I know think, it's just that Paul Robeson's voice has never been equaled. I just love a good deep baritone. There are many voices I enjoy but this one will always be special.

When I was in primary school in Cork in the 1940s I remember a Chistian Brother ('Brother Oliver), one of my favourite teachers ever, teaching us to sing this lovely song. I never dreamed then that I would move to Wales in 1960... Thank you for giving me back that memory of a good day in school...

As a child I watched his films on T.V. As I grew the more I learned about him the more I respected him. Schools should teach children about Paul Robesons life.

I love this man, love his singing. If being a socialist means putting human beings concerns as more important than corporations, I'm a socialist too.

I know this has nothing to do with this video, but Youtube is slowly being ruined!!! They've got ads before the videos and after the video. They have popup ads on the videos which you have to close and even then they still cover the bottom of the video. If that wasn't bad enough, they now got a popup on THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN and I can't close it. If I want to watch the video again, I can't because it'll go another video automatically. I'm getting sick of it!
