LYRICS

Eternal rains will come

We should say goodbye

And suffer on our own

As all our thoughts were wrong

So hard to keep the darkness from seeping through

And when the flood comes to drown us there is nothing we can do

You told me not to wait

Unless I could wait forever

Because there is no time for us

Take comfort in what was

So hard to keep the darkness from seeping through

And when the flood comes to drown us there is nothing we can do

Here it comes, our death comes

And in my sleep I can’t forget

Reaching for the surface, I see you

Best prog album of 2014 imho, this song is like a link to the past, a bridge to the 70s!

Awesome song. Pale Communion is surely the best non-death metal album by Opeth.

I have a friend that is a big opposer to metal and says it has no taste or technique. Just gonna show him some Opeth.

I've been a fan of Opeths music for a few years, Still life being my favourite album ever. However since Watershed they play a style of music which I'm not interested in at all. I check back to Opeth every album to release but I'm disappointed each time. Not saying this music is better or worse than the older stuff, its just not my taste anything about Opeths music I like vanished after Ghost Reveries. I get it that some bands like to evolve and change their sound, but in doing that they naturally change their fans too, I'm not loyal to any band as fan if I like their music I buy it, if not I wont.

Ugh all the fucking neckbeards worshipping this band regardless of what they put out is getting a bit much. Saying metalheads are assholes for not loving everything they do like all their previous work, using loaded words like 'evolution' as though it's supposed to mean something. And you're not a bunch of presumptuous assholes for saying that? How about if they released a rap album? Still going to tout that evolution bullshit?I have several Opeth shirts, been to about a dozen of their shows, and I'm not allowed to not be impressed with some of their material? GO FUCK YOURSELF. Whine your bullshit to the actual metal elitists who hate Opeth any time they hear something soft. It's not about metal elitism so much as it is going in a direction that has less Opeth in it and more tried and aimless paths that diminish the power of their music. BTW this is probably their best song on the entire album. Katatonia are a lot less metal than they used to be but at least they keep their vision together. Same goes for Ihsahn, these bands seem to keep running with the ball that Opeth dropped. Damnation wasn't metal but at least it was really Opeth and you didn't hear me complain.

What a great tune. I lovvve the old, brutal Opeth, but the softer prog stuff stuff sets them apart even more I think. I wonder, had the last two albums been released under a different band name would people stop complaining that it's not death metal? IMHO, if you're only listening for the pure heavy death sections, you're missing the point (and lots of other bands that would suit you).
