OH, HAD I A GOLDEN THREAD

Oh, had I a golden Thread

And needle so fine

I've weave a magic strand

Of rainbow design

Of rainbow design.

In it I'd weave the bravery

Of women giving birth,

In it I would weave the innocence

Of children over all the earth,

Children of all earth.

Far over the waters

I'd reach my magic band

Through foreign cities,

To every single land,

To every land.

Show my brothers and sisters

My rainbow design,

Bind up this sorry world

With hand and heart and mind,

Hand and heart and mind.

Far over the waters

I'd reach my magic band

To every human being

So they would understand,

So they'd understand.

this phrase was in my head a few minutes ago---after so much time that it has been out there with us. so i looked it up expecting to hear Eva but Judy Collins' pure silver voice is just like looking into Heaven. I do love Eva Cassidy, but now that I know Judy covered it as well, i think i'd have to go with Judy Collins. this is lovely.

Best version ever. It is from Where Have All the Flowers Gone: The Songs of Pete Seeger (Appleseed Recordings, 1998)

Beautiful lyrics. I just wish they had been written out accurately.

This one and "Amazing Grace" uplift the human spirit as much as Beethoven's Ninth.

I think Pete Seeger did indeed have a golden thread.. A thread that runs so true, Through lyrics such as these.

How can you not love the way Judy sings it. She is such a perfectionist. I can listen to her version of this over and over. But then I'm bipolar.

It is of course a matter of taste, but I'd take Eva Cassidy's version of this song any day. But then I just LOVE EVA !!

I don't care for Eva Cassidy's cover, Its bluesy and not to my taste. I think of this has a folk song not a cheesy jazz lounge song.

What an amazing voice she has. I saw her on TV a couple of nights ago, and she can still sing like this!
