What a beautifully poignant song, Louise Brooks was an exquisite woman who lit up the silver screen. Her beauty matched her intellect and I can recommend her autobiography 'lulu in Hollywood' as a fantastic glimpse into the not so glamorous world she inhabited. Natalie has really captured Louise's charm in her choice of video. A very fitting tribute xxx

I was late to the party, but I must say this is perhaps NM's best work of art. Incredible insight on her part to choose this "story" and bring it to music. And a tremendous presentation coordinated with a terrific video. I've never seen better. And this with perhaps the best female voice of the era. Natalie Merchant positively shines in this - I'd say song - but it is much more than that. Thanks, Natalie. Mesmerizing.

Bellissima, sfrontata, ribelle, per alcuni svergognata, ma una donna, triste e coraggiosa. Brava Natalie Merchant.

*Lulu*"How could we forget that face, and all that silver flickering grace...""I read Louise Brooks’ autobiography a couple of years ago, “Lulu in Hollywood.” I grew up near where she spent the last 20 years of her life, in Rochester, New York. My best friend Mary Beth and I used to have a fantasy. We couldn’t drive, but when we were teenagers we wanted to take the bus to Rochester and have tea with Louise Brooks. She never had children and could never keep a marriage together, and she felt like a failure in her career. Yet she endures. She rose and fell and fell and rose again. And just when she was at this low period in her life, when she was living hand to mouth and living in a studio apartment in Manhattan, there was a revival happening of her films. She didn’t even know it."

This was brilliant…..and reminded me the power of the silent film in that time….Louise Brooks was a star and would be today. The short clip of her dancing said much of her talents. Thoughtful production with Natalie's song.

She opened up her concert in Chicago last night with this song...I feel so blessed to have been 15 feet away from this force of nature.
