One of my personal favorite covers, it's one of a limited number of cases, where I think a cover actually did justice to an original song. The Sepultura cover was also very good.

Go listen to You Don't Move Me from Bathory and you'll see that punk had a huge influence on black metal.

Punk and metal.... different sides of the same coin. It is only natural for them to blend. Of course, there are certain subgenres that people get turned off by such as metalcore - but then metalcore these days doesn't mean what metalcore used to mean.

actually, aside from all of the heavy metal influences Hellhammer and Celtic Frost had (Sabbath, Angel Witch, Venom) they had a lot of influence by Discharge

There is no point in arguing with people so see no punk in black metal. You have to question how they ever got into this wonderful music at all if they are so blind that they cannot see black/death/thrash/punk/doom/crust/grind/noise it all comes from the vein, its all just beautiful fucking noise.

@xmetaljessex And Hellhammer also had so much punk influenced riffs, a great example is Messiah, it has a simple structure and it has like 7 chords troughout the whole song, yet its so destructive and powerful

@chaclapa Are you retarded? Of COURSE black metal was influenced by punk. Have you ever listened to Venom? There's so much punk influence it's unreal. Venom members even had a side-project called Warfare, that was a punk/thrash crossover band that had a very similar sound to first generation Venom/black metal.

The comment beneath me is spot on. No punk = no black metal. The first black metal bands were actually just morbid sounding thrash bands. Thrash being directly influenced by hardcore. Plus, go listen to the original version of this song. It's VERY punky. Punk and Metal were made for each other, soulmates. (:
